Why we invested in Limetax
Germany's tax advisory market runs on a paradox: demand is mandatory, recurring, and cycle-resistant, yet the supply side is ageing, understaffed, and stuck on manual workflows. Every fragmented, compliance-driven market eventually finds an operator who consolidates it. Enabled by a proprietary, industry-tailored AI tool stack, Limetax unlocks scalability in a market that has historically resisted meaningful efficiency gains. As an active operator and consolidator, Limetax is creating the agentic tax and accounting advisory platform of the future.
That’s why we invested.
The problem
Local tax firms generate stable, cash-rich recurring revenue, but most of that value stays trapped. Duplicated overhead, manual document handling and inconsistent billing keep margins far below what the underlying client relationships could support. At the same time, the workforce behind these firms is retiring faster than it is being replaced, and firms without scale simply cannot compete for the qualified staff that remain.
Software vendors cannot fix this from the outside. They can license tools to incumbents, but they never gain control over the workflow itself, so adoption stays shallow and the client relationship stays with the firm. Traditional roll-ups have the opposite problem: they centralise administration and branding but never touch the actual workflow, so margin gains stop at the back office.
The market
German tax advisory is a market north of EUR 20bn, built on mandatory, regulatory-driven demand. It is also extremely fragmented, with thousands of independent firms holding the large majority of the market and only a handful of larger players commanding meaningful share. With many owner retirements and succession issues certain to materialize over the coming decade and a persistent shortage of qualified staff, the market has exactly the ingredients that have made buy-and-build strategies work in other professional services categories: fragmentation, recurring revenue and structural inefficiency that a unified operating model can remove.
The solution
Limetax is building a vertical AI platform that takes equity stakes in small and mid-sized German tax advisory firms and rebuilds how they work from within. At the center sits ATLAS, its proprietary agentic platform, which sits on top of DATEV, the system most German firms already run on, and orchestrates specialized AI agents for bookkeeping, filings and payroll. Every agent output passes through a human judgement layer, where the firm's own professionals review the work, apply their expertise and sign off, so the advisory relationship with the client stays exactly where it belongs.
Crucially, Limetax does not sell software to firms it does not have a stake in. By taking equity in the firms it works with, it can redesign the workflow itself rather than layering tools on top of it, which is the only way to actually capture the margin upside that fragmentation has been hiding.
Why we're convinced
Our conviction rests on the founders, the structural fit between the model and the market and the compounding nature of the platform itself.
Christoph Gamon and Max Meyer built the M&A playbook that took Razor Group from founding to unicorn status, executing more than 100 acquisitions along the way. Christoph brings deal judgment and financial discipline, Max brings operational and integration depth. Rounding out the founding team, CTO Christoph Dansard was a founding engineer at the fintech unicorn Augustus, and brings the product and engineering knowledge and expertise needed to actually build the agentic platform at the core of the model. Integration execution and technical execution together are the key decisive factors for a roll-up strategy to be successful. And this is a founding team that has already proven both, in exactly the environment this strategy demands.
Structurally, Germany's tax advisory market has high regulatory complexity and workflows built entirely around DATEV. That is a barrier for any AI-first roll-up trying to enter from outside Germany, but it is a moat for an operator built for this market from day one. Local licensing requirements, deep client trust and entrenched software standards mean the model cannot simply be transplanted from adjacent markets, which gives a local, disciplined operator real room to move before international competition catches up.
Every firm added to the platform does more than add revenue. It expands the shared operating infrastructure, deepens the workflow data the AI stack learns from, and spreads fixed cost across a larger base. That is what separates a true platform from a simple aggregator.
We believe Limetax has the team, the timing and the model to build the consolidation and platform champion in a market ripe and, enabled by AI, now ready for disruption .
That’s why we invested.
